Ron Manners is an inspirational man in the flesh. Whether he is earning a standing ovation at a large mining industry gathering or uplifting a small group of students, Ron has the ability to communicate his passion for freedom of the individual, his love for human enterprise and his compassion for those less fortunate. There are some people whose personal magnetism does not translate from personal contact to the written word. Ron Manners is not one of those people, as evidenced by the inspiration which a reader will enjoy, page by page and chapter by chapter, in reading “Heroic Misadventures”. One could gain from the title the mistaken impression that Ron Manners is primarily a modern Don Quixote. Yes, there is an element of Don Quixote in Ron, but his “tilting at windmills” includes a very long and successful track record of overcoming bureaucratic interference and promoting freedom-oriented solutions to serious problems. The sole sad fact about Ron Manners is that there is only one of him. I hope that his book will spawn across Australian and beyond a tribe of Ron Manners emulators who will each add a personal touch to the art of promoting liberty.
